Spoon River College (SRC) Early Start (Dual Credit) High School Program
The Early Start College (Dual Credit) Program offers high school students an opportunity
to earn college credits. High school students who meet the necessary requirements and
course prerequisites may enroll in Spoon River College courses held on campus, at one of
the college‘s extension sites, or at their high school. The determination of whether a
college course is offered for high school credit is made according to the policies and
practices of each secondary school district.
**Spoon River College is now allowing students under the age of 16 to take dual credit classes, if they meet all other SRC requirements. (2015-16)

Cuba Middle Senior High School Dual Credit Requirements and Check list
Students must meet the minimum college requirements to enroll in and receive high school and/or college credit for college internet courses and Dual Credit courses. Without prior approval, the credit awarded by the junior college, college or university will not be used for high school credit. Dual credit may be offered, as courses are made available by the local community college. The following provisions apply:
~ Students requesting Dual credit courses must have and maintain a "B" average
~ Students must meet the SRC Accuplacer test requirements
~ The class must be taken as part of the regular school day (8 classes)
~ The class must be approved in advance by the guidance counselor and the high school principal
~ The student assumes all responsibility for all fees and transportation
~ The course is completed according to the local school calendar
~ The course will count toward GPA/Class rank at .5 credit per class
~ All students must be enroll in eight classes with a minimum of two classes per day taken at Cuba Middle Senior High School
~ Courses taken outside the regular 8-class schedule (night classes and summer college classes) will not count toward GPA or class rank
~ Transcripts will be furnished at the end of each semester to high school officials to determine continued eligibility
~ Students may drop a Dual Credit course and return to a regular high school course at any time before the college's final drop date
~ If a student drops a college course by the college's final withdrawal date,then he/she may enroll in the appropriate high school course with the current transfer grade. Students who drop a college course after the drop date will receive an F on the transcript and must enroll in the appropriate high school course with no credit
Please keep the following in mind as you enroll in Dual Credit classes:
~ Taking Dual Credit classes is optional. If you are taking more than 15 hours of Dual Credit, you should first check with the college or university you plan to attend to ensure that all credits will transfer.
~ This is your responsibility. You may get an agreement in writing as to how many credits will transfer - as general education electives or core requirements for your major.
* If you plan to take (Engish) Composition 101 for Dual Credit, you should also plan to take (English) Composition 102 in order to ensure that the college you plan to attend awards English credit and not just an elective credit. Keep in mind also, that you will be placed in high school English as well.
